Course Description

Ocean Engineering Wave Mechanics (3-0) Credit 3. II. Physical and Mathematical fundamentals of ocean wave behavior; Mechanics of wave motion; use of statistics and probability to develop design wave criteria. Prerequisites CVEN 311, OCEN201 or registration therein

Course Objectives

  • Learn fundamentals of fluid mechanics applied to basic ocean wave theory.
  • Learn linear and nonlinear wave theory and wave forecasting method applied to numerous coastal and ocean engineering problems.
  • Learn statistics and probability theory applied to ocean random waves.
  • Learn spectral and time series analysis of random waves.

OCEN 673: Nonlinear Hydrodynamic Problems

Course Description

Nonlinear hydrodynamic problems involved with complex offshore structures in high sea environment; Nonlinear wave application of Volterra model to weakly nonlinear systems; Generation of nonlinear waves; Nonlinear interactions between waves and structures; Dynamic analysis of nonlinear responses
